Boundary Study Information Meetings

Dear families,

As you know, the Salt Lake City School District is currently studying seven elementary schools for possible closure, including Mary W Jackson Elementary. The district is also studying the elementary schools that remain open for possible boundary changes. It is possible that if our school remains open after this process, that some students who attend Mary W Jackson this year will be assigned to attend a different neighborhood school next year. Additionally, the district is studying the location of special district programs such as Dual Language Immersion and Magnet (gifted) programs to continue to serve students currently in these programs and to ensure the programs are accessible for future students. That’s why I want to make sure you are aware that in the next week, the district will be holding three informational meetings regarding the Population and Boundary study process. The meetings will include an opportunity for community members to ask questions of district leadership. Here are the dates for the meetings:

·       Wednesday, October 18 (Tomorrow), 7-9pm at Northwest Middle School

·       Saturday, October 21, 2023, 9-11am at Franklin Elementary School

·       This meeting will be run in SPANISH, with English translation provided.

·       Wednesday, October 25, 7-9pm at Hillside Middle School

All the meetings will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel, www.YouTube.com/slcschools. If you are unable to attend in person or to watch the livestream, you will be able to watch a recording on the district YouTube channel at your convenience.

Additionally, childcare and translation will be available at all meetings. For the October 18 and October 25 meetings. The October 21 meeting will be run in Spanish, and English translation will be provided. Translation into other languages for any of these three meetings can be requested by calling (801) 578-8378.

You can also provide feedback using this online comment form. More information is available on the district website.

Reach out if you have any questions.
